Former
President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee was granted the country’s highest civilian
award Bharat Ratna. He is in the 6th from West Bengal to win this
award. Others are

After
gap of 4years Bharat Ratna has been conferred to our former President Pranab Mukherjee along with Bharatiya Jana
Sangh leader Nanaji Deshmukh and Singer Bhupen Hazarika.
About Pranab Mukherjee:
Pranab
Kumar Mukherjee, born on 11th December, 1935, served as the 13th
Presideent of India from 2012 to 2017. He was in Union Finance Minister from
2009 to 2012.
Education:
Sir
Pranab Mukherjee completed his graduation, masters in political Science and History
and LLB from Calcutta University.
Facts about Pranab Mukherjee:
ü Before
started his political journey, he was an upper division clerk in the office of Deputy
Accountant-General in Calcutta.
ü He became a
lecturer of political science at Vidyasagar College.
ü Also worked
as a journalist with Desher Dak
ü HE got his
break in politics in 1969.
ü He was a leader
of the house in Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1985
ü After 1991
Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao Appointed him Planning Commission head and
Foreign Minister in 1995
ü He was
recipient of ‘THE BEST ADMINISTRATOR in INDIA’ award in 2011.
ü In 2004 he
won the Lok Sabha seat for the 1st time and conquered many key
cabinet profiles such as – Defence, External affairs and Finance.
ü In July
2012, he defeated P a Sangma, winning 70 percent of the electoral-college vote.
