MATH OLYMPIAD
Most of us just heard about
Mathematical Olympiad or just read in newspaper. Only few of us know the process to
participate. Most people regret as when they know about it they are already out
of age. So, we represent the process here to inform everyone.
1. Pre-Regional Mathematic Olympiad (PRMO):-
Pre RMO is the first step to Indian
Mathematical Olympiad. In order to be eligible for the RMO it is mandatory that
students qualify through this centrally administered PRMO. The PRMO exam will be organized by MTA with
assistance from IAPT. Students form class 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 are eligible to take
PRMO. Although there is an age limit that’s varies from year to year...
Basically the exam held around the month July-august.
2. Regional Mathematic Olympiad (RMO):-
RMO is the second step. The Regional
Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) is a three hour examination with six problems. The
RMOs are offered in English, Hindi and other regional languages as deemed
appropriate by the respective Regional Coordinators. From each region, the top
300 students of PRMO from class 8, 9, 10, 11 and top 60 students from class 12
will be eligible to participate in RMO. Basically the exam held around the
month September-December.
3. Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO):-
Top 900 students from RMO qualify for the third
stage i.e. INMO. It is a four hour written test and question paper is set
centrally and the test is common throughout the country. Basically the exam
held around the month February.
4. International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC):-
The best performing students from the INMO
approximately 35 are invited for the fourth stage i.e. the International
Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). This is conducted by HBCSE during
April- May.
5. International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO):-
This is the final exam organized by the Science
Olympiad Foundation (SOF). On the basis of performance in these tests six
students are selected to represent India at the IMO. The selected team
undergoes a rigorous training program for about 8-10 days at HBCSE prior to its
departure for the IMO.
Students
from class1 to 12 can participate for IMO. In this case they have to register
from their schools only. This exam is conducted in two levels. LEVEL-1
conducted at school premises and center for LEVEL -2 is decided by SCIENCE
OLMPIAD FOUNDATION.
Students
from class 1to12 are eligible for LEVEL-1, although students from class 3 to 12
are eligible for LEVEL -2. There is no LEVEL -2 for class 1 and 2.
• LEVEL 1 :-
The
level 1 competition is an objective-type test of 60 minutes duration
comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple
Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple
Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12. There are separate question papers
to each class. Syllabus of the exam is based on CBSE, ICSE and State Board
syllabus. This exam is conducted during school hours.
• LEVEL 2 :-
Top 5% of candidates, class wise, who appear in the 1st level exam, qualifies for the 2nd round, although, LEVEL -2 is conducted for the students of class 3 to 12 , including-
· Zone wise top 25 rank holders from
each standard, and
· Students scoring at least 50%
qualifying mark and are also the class toppers from a batch of at least 10
students from a participating school. Candidates with highest marks will
qualify for LEVEL- 2, in case registration is received section wise. For
section wise registrations, winner(s) of gold medal may not necessarily qualify
for the LEVEL- 2.
There is another math exam, called IOM (International
Olympiad of Mathematic), conducted by SILVER ZONE FOUNDATION.
There are three levels and students
from class 1 to 12 can participate.
Top 500 Olympiad rank holders of the 1st
level from each class are eligible for 2nd level. Olympiad 1st
rank holders of class 6 to 12 in 2nd level are eligible for 3rd
level.
